Hollywood-by-the-Sea… How much I miss you! Oxnard California

It’s been about a year since I’ve walked these beaches.  This is Mandalay Beach Resort and it’s directly on the beach in Oxnard California.  We lived in Southern California for twelve years and this place holds some of my very best memories!

I have stayed at this resort many times since. It sits between two of my favorite beaches which are Hollywood-by-the-Sea Beach and Oxnard Shores.  When I am here, my first decision every morning is, do I stroll Hollywood Beach to my left or Oxnard Shores to my right  coffee in hand?

This was the view from the balcony in our room!  As you can imagine, it is an easy place to fall in love with.

The harbor is great fun too!  There are lots of shops and restaurants, beautiful boats in the marina, a maritime museum, weekly farmers market and beautiful parks.  Walk or bike, its all right here on this special peninsula.

There are bike and surri rentals at the resort and a concrete bike path that runs along the water, through lovely beach neighborhoods and to the Channel Islands Harbor.

Hollywood-by-the-Sea was first developed in the 1920s as a Malibu alternative to the stars.

These old photos are circa 1926 and courtesy of USC Library.  This beach was a Hollywood favorite for Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo and Rudolph Valentino. If you can travel anywhere and you choose this place it must be pretty special…

I can’t wait to get back there!
